Often we are asked how German Airways VA was founded, in which way everything began. So I think that is the right point to give a short glance back.
The history of German Airways VA began in 1998. At this time I began to develop a flight-schedule for an imaginary airline.
Although it was just the first small step on the way to our VA, one thing was sure at this time: the name of the airline
should be German Airways VA. The aim of this project was not to create an airline for Microsofts Flightsimulator, but to get
to know how a real airlines work. After about half a year the developed schedule contained 246 destinations with a fleet
of 139 aircrafts. Hub-airports were Munich and Frankfurt. By fortunate coincidience the project got into the hands of
one of my teachers. He became enthusiatic about the project and convinced me to take part with the project at "Jugend
Forscht", which is one of the biggest science contests in Germany.
As a result of that German Airways VA took part in the regional-contest in February 2000 in Berlin and got a second place within the contest. Even at this time German Airways VA was only an imaginary airline and not a VA like you see it right now. As I did not have access to the internet in the year 2000, I did not even know the VA-scene which was already existing at this time.
With the success of the contest in mind I decided to publish a homepage of German Airways VA, which I created for the
science-contest. But then, in April 2000, I got to know the already existing VA's and decided to change the concept of
German Airways VA: in order to start a VA the schedule and fleet was reduced. Then, in May 2000, German Airways VA was born
and the homepage was online. After a few days the first pilots signed in and the VA started its operation. At the
beginning our VA was supported by the british Silent Wings VA. For example they supported us in painting our fleet and
getting known. But with the time we got more and more independent and built up still perfect working managementsystem
with that we will be successful in the future, too.
